DECATUR, Georgia — May 6, 2026
A woman was killed after two vehicles collided and crashed into a Kroger store in Decatur on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the DeKalb County Police Department, the accident occurred on Wesley Chapel Road and remains under investigation.
A representative from DeKalb County Fire Rescue stated that one vehicle struck another, causing both to plow into the side of the Kroger store underneath the pharmacy sign.
The female driver of the vehicle that was struck died at the scene.
The woman driving the car that caused the accident was transported to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Additionally, two minors standing on the sidewalk near the scene were taken for medical evaluations following the collision.
Images from the scene show two cars protruding into the front of the store, having knocked over several shopping carts. Ambulances and police tape heavily cordoned off the area.
Witness Mawakana White described the scene as "chaos" and said the vehicle believed to have caused the accident was traveling down the road at a very high speed.
“Everyone thought the car was going to stop… but it didn’t. It slammed right into the grey car and then everything became chaotic,” White told FOX 5 Atlanta.
Witnesses also mentioned that many suspected the driver might have experienced a medical emergency before the accident, though the official cause has not yet been released.
