Diplomatic warnings indicate that Vietnam, Bangladesh, and the Philippines could face oil depletion within approximately 3 weeks if conflicts involving Iran continue to disrupt shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
This information was released ahead of a major energy conference in Houston, according to Politico. The Strait of Hormuz currently serves as the world's critical energy transport route, with about 21 million barrels of oil passing through daily, nearly 80% of which is destined for Asia (according to The New York Times).
Prolonged disruption has caused countries heavily dependent on Middle Eastern oil to rapidly deplete their reserves. Vietnam, Bangladesh, and the Philippines are among those directly affected.
Experts warn that if supply is not restored in time, the consequences could spread:
- Production stagnation
- Supply chain disruptions
- Risk of economic decline
Many countries have begun to respond:
- Pakistan is considering shortening the work week to save energy
- Asian airlines are canceling flights due to fuel shortages
- India is reporting domestic gas shortages
In Europe, the slowing supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) has forced some countries to reconsider their energy policies, including the possibility of returning to Russian supplies.
Meanwhile, the U.S. remains in a more stable position thanks to its large oil and gas production. International partners are starting to turn to the U.S. to compensate for the shortfalls.
However, the market remains highly volatile. Oil prices have approached the $100 per barrel mark, leading to pressure on fuel prices and inflation.
The Trump administration has signaled a desire to achieve its campaign goals soon but has not yet provided a specific timeline for the complete restoration of shipping routes at Hormuz.
International diplomats are asking a key question: How long will this crisis last?
