Polish authorities are investigating the discovery of at least 29 fetal remains buried on private property in the village of Lutoryż, southern Poland, after construction workers stumbled upon the remains while building a driveway.

According to the local Prosecutor's Office, workers discovered a large quantity of medical waste, including paraffin blocks and microscope slides, before finding human remains. Forensic experts later confirmed these remains were human fetuses.

The investigation led to the arrest of a 57-year-old woman in the city of Zamość on June 12. Local media identified the suspect as “Magdalena H,” who is believed to be a pathologist who previously owned the property in question.

The current owners of the property are not under investigation. They reportedly purchased the house about six months ago from the suspect, who had owned the plot for the two years prior.

Authorities stated that the suspect is being investigated for alleged acts including:

  • Desecration and improper handling of human remains.

  • Illegal disposal of hazardous medical waste.

The area around the house has been cordoned off for examination. Forensic teams continue to excavate and collect evidence, while also conducting DNA tests on the samples found.

Some initial reports suggested around 13 bodies were discovered, but several Polish news outlets later reported the number could be as high as 29 or 30 fetuses.

If convicted, the suspect could face a prison sentence of 2 to 12 years under Polish law.

Currently, investigative authorities have not disclosed the exact reason for the fetuses' presence on the property, nor the connection between these remains and the suspect's past professional activities.
