May 28, 2026 — Hundreds of small sharks and other dead marine creatures have appeared along beaches in Wales, shocking local residents.

Pauline Morris discovered a net full of dead fish while walking her dog on Pembrey Beach in Carmarthenshire over the weekend.

The 65-year-old woman described the sight as “horrific” and said it traumatized her to the point where she no longer wants to eat fish.

According to reports, fish and shark carcasses were spread over a wide area, with many caught in large nets.

Days earlier, another walker also discovered many dead marine creatures on Saundersfoot Beach in Pembrokeshire. Experts believe most were catsharks — also known as dogfish.

Cliff Benson, founder of Sea Trust Wales, stated that the dead fish could be related to offshore fishing activities.

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) commented that it is highly likely these fish were discarded from fishing vessels or lost catches at sea.

NRW stated that no signs of environmental pollution have been detected in the area.

According to the agency, the tide has now swept most of the carcasses back to sea, and no widespread environmental impact has been recorded.
