ISLAMABAD – Iran announced on June 14 that the signing date for a peace agreement with the United States has not yet been finalized, contrary to President Trump's earlier statement that the document would be signed on Sunday.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that Tehran is still reviewing the final details of the agreement framework and needs to exercise caution before confirming a signing date.

According to Baghaei, the peace memorandum negotiated in Islamabad is likely to be finalized in the next few days, but "will not happen on Sunday" as announced by Washington.

Previously, President Trump posted on Truth Social that a peace agreement with Iran was "scheduled to be signed tomorrow" and the Strait of Hormuz would reopen immediately after the document's signing.

Trump affirmed that the agreement includes a clause preventing Iran from possessing nuclear weapons and stated that relations between Washington and Tehran are now "much better" than under previous administrations. However, the US President also warned that a "final option" still exists if the peace process does not proceed smoothly.

Disclosed Provisions

According to Iranian sources cited by international media, the current draft agreement includes several key provisions:

  • Iran commits not to produce or possess nuclear weapons.

  • The Strait of Hormuz will reopen to all international commercial vessels.

  • The US will lift naval blockades related to the conflict.

  • Both parties will continue negotiations for 60 days on the future of Iran's nuclear program.

  • Iran's stockpile of highly enriched uranium will be processed according to a mechanism currently under discussion.

A senior Iranian official stated that Tehran wants enriched uranium to be diluted and stored within Iranian territory instead of being transferred abroad. Meanwhile, the US reportedly wishes for this uranium to be destroyed or completely removed.

Security Situation Remains Tense

Despite positive diplomatic signals, the regional situation remains unstable.

On June 14, the Israeli military reported that Hezbollah forces had fired three projectiles towards civilian areas in northern Israel near Shomera and Shlomi. Israel accused this act of violating the current ceasefire.

Meanwhile, the US military announced it had shot down Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles targeting vessels operating in the Strait of Hormuz.

Additionally, Tehran confirmed that the funeral for the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei will take place on July 4, with the burial ceremony scheduled for July 9.

Observers note that negotiations are very close to completion, but disagreements regarding the nuclear program and implementation mechanisms remain the final obstacles before the official document is signed.
