TEL AVIV/TEHRAN — Israeli intelligence spent years infiltrating and controlling nearly all traffic camera systems in Tehran to closely monitor Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to a report from the Financial Times citing multiple intelligence sources.

These cameras, including one device aimed directly at Khamenei’s heavily guarded compound, helped the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad build a detailed intelligence profile, which reportedly supported Saturday’s airstrikes as part of Operation Epic Fury.

An Israeli intelligence official told the Financial Times that they “know Tehran as well as we know Jerusalem,” referring to the deep level of penetration into the Iranian capital’s surveillance infrastructure.

Tracking the “Pulse” of Security

According to sources, data collected from the cameras allowed Mossad to analyze the “life patterns” of Khamenei’s security detail—including parking locations, residential addresses, and specific duty assignments.

This information was part of the intelligence data used to determine the optimal time to conduct an airstrike on the Tehran complex, which took place while a major meeting of Islamic Republic security officials was underway.

The plan to target Khamenei had been in preparation for months, but the timing of the execution was adjusted after confirming he would attend the meeting in person, according to the source.

The Role of Real-Time Confirmation

Before President Trump ordered the deployment of the operation, the camera system reportedly confirmed that the meeting was proceeding on schedule.

Subsequently, fighter jets carried out the daylight strike. According to reports, the building was completely destroyed, resulting in the deaths of Khamenei along with several high-ranking officials and some family members.

No Independent Confirmation

The claims in the report are currently based on intelligence sources and have not been independently confirmed by Iran. Tehran has not issued an official response to the allegations that the capital's traffic camera system was compromised over a long period.

The conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran has now entered its fourth day, with military and security developments continuing to escalate.
