Photo of Prince Andrew's Arrest Appears at Louvre Museum
A photo of Prince Andrew taken after his arrest at Sandringham unexpectedly appeared hanging on a wall at the Louvre Museum in Paris, drawing the attention of thousands of visitors before being taken down.
The 66-year-old former prince was escorted by British police from his Sandringham estate last Thursday for questioning regarding alleged misconduct during his tenure as the UK's special representative for trade and investment. He was interrogated for several hours—on his 66th birthday—and then released that same evening.
Controversial Photo with the Title "He's Sweating Now"
The controversial photo shows Andrew seated in a car, leaning back in his seat, attempting to hide his face from reporters' cameras. The image was widely published by numerous media outlets.
On Sunday, an activist affixed a framed print of the photo to a wall near the entrance of a gallery at the Louvre Museum. Below it was a card reading: "He's Sweating Now" — a headline that previously appeared in The Sun tabloid, referencing Andrew's past statement that he couldn't sweat due to a medical condition.
Activist Group Calls for Justice for Epstein's Victims
A video was posted on Instagram by the activist group Everyone Hates Elon with the message: "They said hang it in the Louvre. So we did." A representative for the group told GB News that they wanted to show how the world would remember Andrew, while also calling for justice for victims associated with Jeffrey Epstein.
The Louvre Museum welcomes up to 30,000 visitors daily. According to reports, the photo remained hanging for about 15 minutes before staff removed it.
Investigation Related to Trade Envoy Role
The investigation pertains to Andrew's role as special representative for trade and investment—a position he held for about a decade with the task of promoting British business interests domestically and internationally. He resigned from the post in 2011 following controversy over his association with Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew denies any wrongdoing related to Epstein.
Police confirmed the arrest of a man in his 60s in Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office, who was later released pending further investigation. Authorities stated that searches in Norfolk have concluded.
