According to the Russian state news agency TASS, the call focused primarily on the situation involving Iran and diplomatic efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict.
Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov stated that the two sides discussed the negotiation process regarding Ukraine, including the participation of U.S. representatives.
“President Trump once again expressed his desire to end the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible through a ceasefire and a long-term solution,” Ushakov said.
The Russian side stated they positively assess the mediating role of President Trump and his team in efforts to find a solution for the war.
Context of the Iran conflict
The phone call took place on the same day President Trump described the U.S. military campaign in Iran as “very complete.”
This campaign comes amidst rising military tensions between the U.S., Israel, and Iran.
Some reports suggest that Russia has provided intelligence and targeting data to Iranian forces since the conflict with the U.S. broke out, similar to the U.S. supporting Ukraine in its war with Russia.
It is currently unclear whether this issue was mentioned during the phone call between the two leaders.
Campaign promise
During the 2024 campaign, President Trump claimed he could end the Ukraine war within 24 hours if elected.
However, after his return to the White House, the war continues and diplomatic efforts are underway to seek a ceasefire.
